Driver's card

Driver’s card first issuance, renewal of an expiring driver’s card, replacement of a lost driver’s card, renewal of an expired driver’s card or replacement of a stolen driver’s card. Click on the arrow icon.

The tachograph driver card is mandatory for drivers of vehicles over 3.5t (or up to 3.5t with a trailer with a total weight over 3.5t) equipped with a digital tachograph (digital tachograph requirement for vehicles first registered after June 1, 2006).

The price of a tachograph driver card is €55 + fee at the collection point (the fee at the collection point varies, but typically the total cost of a driver card with fees is under €100).

The validity of the tachograph card is 5 years and its renewal can be requested at the earliest 2 months before its expiration.

Processing of the driver card takes from 5 to 30 business days. To process a driver card, it is necessary to appear in person at the collection point with a valid driving license for operating a vehicle of the given category. To submit a driver card application, we need to photograph the applicant in person and have them sign digitally via a signature tablet.

To process the card, it is necessary to provide a valid email address and be the owner of a bank account (payment is made via bank transfer – it doesn’t matter which account makes the payment).

For the application you need (Slovak citizen):

  1. Driving license
  2. ID card
  3. Email address
  4. Delivery address information (if different from the one on the ID)
  5. Information about whether the proforma invoice can be issued to a company (in case the driver card is reimbursed by the company)
  6. Need to pay the proforma invoice within 3 business days
  7. Photograph (taken on site)
  8. Digital signature (created on site)
ATTENTION: The driver card is a data card for the tachograph to record times and driving data. The tachograph driver card is not a CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) or a taxi service driver card.

Information for foreign drivers

For the application you need (foreign driver):
  1. Driving license (can be from a foreign country)
  2. Passport
  3. Email address
  4. Delivery address information (if different from temporary residence)
  5. Information about whether the proforma invoice can be issued to a company (in case the driver card is reimbursed by the company)
  6. Need to pay the proforma invoice within 3 business days
  7. Email address
  8. Residence permit valid for more than 180 days from the date of issue (if it is not valid for at least 180 days, it is necessary to provide a digital scan or photo of the original)
  9. Need to surrender the driver card if the driver owns a card issued in a foreign country (if they conceal its ownership, the driver card will be rejected without the possibility of a refund)
  10. Digital signature (created on site)
  11. Photograph (taken on site)
Warning: The validity period of the driver card is issued until the expiration of the temporary residence permit, but for a maximum of 5 years Only a temporary residence card is accepted. We do not accept “displaced person,” “refugee” papers or any other form of document other than an original temporary or long-term residence permit

Loss of card

To report a lost driver card, you need to have a discrete data code ready. This discrete data code is a special 4-digit code that serves to block the driver card in case of loss or theft to prevent its misuse. The discrete data code is sent together with the driver card when it is delivered to the applicant. If a stolen or lost driver card was not blocked by phone (using the discrete data code), it is not possible to apply for a new driver card. In case the driver card is lost and its validity has already expired, it is not necessary to block this card. If you do not have the discrete data code, you can request for it to be resent. This process may incur a fee, and you will need to present valid identification for verification when requesting the discrete data code. If you own a tachograph card issued in another member country, you must request its blocking from the relevant authority in that country. Data download from the driver card every 28 days is a process where data from the driver card is downloaded, archived, and driver violations are evaluated. There are several options for performing this process. You can purchase hardware and software for downloading driver cards or visit a facility where the driver card can be downloaded. If you need a one-time or simple solution for downloading a driver card, visit the facility listed on the website. If you want to manage driver card downloads yourself, visit the e-shop on the website and purchase one of the available options.

Discrete data
